Registration conditions
Firstly, to register you will need personal information: last name, first name, phone number and age. This is mandatory information, there is also additional information - place of study, residence, interests, etc., but it is not necessary to indicate it. No one will check how truthfully you filled out the fields, so you can register under a pseudonym and take any age. Officially, registration on the social network is permitted for persons over 13 years of age.
Secondly, to create an account, you will need a phone number in any case. Registration by email is not possible. The only official alternative is to log in via Facebook. But to get a Facebook account, you will also need a phone number.
There is a way to register without a phone: get a virtual number provided by a specialized service and use it for registration.
In what cases can you not create an account?
Problems with creating an account can arise in two cases:
- Data to confirm your identity, that is, a captcha or code sent to the specified phone number, was entered incorrectly. In this case, it is enough to re-enter the information, this time without an error.
- An attempt is made to register a page to a number that already contains another page. There are two ways out of this situation: replace the number, that is, use a SIM card for which an account has not yet been registered, or delete the page to which the number used is linked, and then repeat the registration process. If you choose the second option and confirm that you are the owner of the specified number, the old account will be deleted and there will be no way to restore it.

When and why you can’t create a VK account
The reasons are as follows.
- The social network is prohibited by the current legislation of the country from which you accessed vk.com, and the providers, following the instructions of the regulator, added VKontakte to the ban list (black list).
- This country also prohibits encryption and anonymizers that would help circumvent the rule in paragraph 1.
- The network of your company, institution or establishment to which you are connected at work has prohibited the use of social networks - this may be dictated by the need for employees to work more efficiently.
- “White” list - for example, in a school this is the website of the school itself, as well as some websites of an educational nature. The rest of the Internet will be blocked. This is an extreme option that excludes bypassing restrictions using third-party Internet services. The rule follows from paragraph 3.
- Registration of VKontakte may be temporarily stopped by the management of the social network in order to prevent overload of the vk.com servers and all kinds of sabotage by attackers.
- Software and technical work is being carried out on the vk.com website - within a few hours or days the site will be reopened. A very rare situation - given the equipment of VKontakte servers with the latest technology and the speed of transport (backbone) networks connected to these servers.
How to register on VKontakte - step-by-step instructions
So, if you have a SIM card that has not yet registered a single page, you can start registering. The procedure can be carried out from any device - the instructions presented below describe the process for both computers and Android and IOS devices. After the standard methods, there are some additional registration options.
From computer
- Go to the official website of the social network, you need a registration block. First and last name are required fields and cannot be skipped. The same applies to the date of birth, but in the future it will be possible to hide it from other users.

From a mobile device
If you want to get an account from an IOS or Android mobile device, then there are two ways: through a browser or a special application. In the first case, you need to open any browser available on the device and go to the VKontakte website, and further actions will look exactly the same as on a computer, so see the above-described item “From a computer”. The second option is to go to the Play Market (Android) or App Store (IOS) and install the official VKontakte application; it is distributed free of charge on all platforms.
- After the application is downloaded and opened, you need to click the “Register” button.

Registration via mail has not been possible since 2012 under any conditions. You can only create an account on a Facebook number or page.

How to register without a phone number
If you do not have a SIM card to which the page is attached, and you cannot buy a new one, you can create a virtual number to register a new account. The disadvantage of this method is that if you lose access to the virtual phone, you will not be able to recover your account password when the opportunity arises. Therefore, save all information for authorization on the site that provides you with the number.

- Go to the service website and register on it.

Registration in Ukraine
Since 2021, the VKontakte website has been banned in Ukraine, as a result of which access to it is blocked. But this limitation can be circumvented by connecting a VPN. Then your IP address changes, that is, the browser will think that you are in another country, so it will give access to the site, after which you will only have to register in the usual way described above.
For mobile devices it is connected through special applications from the Play Market or IOS. Enter the word VPN in the search bar of the store, install the one that suits you best, open it and wait until the VPN icon or key appears in the information panel (at the top of the screen).

Features of registration on the VKontakte network
The service has a number of rules that must be followed when registering an account. There is no need to list all the rules; you will become familiar with them in the process, but a number of features must be indicated.
- When registering, you will be asked to enter your first and last name - no one will check you right away, so you can enter any data as long as it sounds plausible. But at the same time, in case of controversial situations with your account, it may be necessary to confirm the data using your passport. That is, registration can be done anonymously, but this is prohibited by the rules and if you attract the attention of the site administration in any matter, such registration can harm you, because you will not be able to confirm your identity.
- There is a way not to enter a first or last name at all when registering - to do this, just enter [removed] this.disabled=true in the corresponding field. document.regMe.submit(). After this, an empty field will appear in place of your data. But do not forget about the already mentioned problems with the site administration, which are also possible in this case.
- The VKontakte website does not limit the age of registration of users - but still there is a lot of unsafe information for children. Keep an eye on your child. If we consider the restrictions under the law, then the very fact of accepting the user agreement can be legally correct from the age of six (as a small household transaction). For the actions of a minor child online, his parents are responsible.
- When registering, you should enter your phone number - the phone number is used both as a login on the site and to confirm your account. Entering someone else's phone number is highly discouraged - this will make it very difficult to restore your account in the future. However, there are also some tricks here, which will be discussed in the corresponding section of this article.
Reasons why you cannot register
There are not many reasons why registration cannot be carried out. We list the main ones:
- if VKontakte is not supported or blocked in your region, due to local laws, the site may not be available for free registration. For example, in countries where Internet access is severely limited or specifically VKontakte is blocked, registration can become a difficult task;
- legal restrictions on registration - in rare cases, a person may be prohibited from registering and using this social network. In this case, of course, he should not register;
- other reasons are only user errors during registration - this can include omission or incorrect filling of data forms, as well as entering a phone number from which the user cannot confirm his registration. Otherwise, registration is available to everyone free of charge.
If, when registering on VKontakte, requests appear to pay money or send an SMS message, you have landed on a fake site and scammers are now trying to deceive you. Don't fall for such tricks.
Do I need to register again if access to the page is lost?
If your account has been hacked or your password has been forgotten, you do not need to create a new one. At any time, you can recover your password or change it if it was found out by someone who shouldn’t know it. The only thing you need is the number to which the page is linked. Without it, there is no way to get a new password.
