When logging into the mobile version of VKontakte, the user gets the opportunity to visit his page on the social network from a computer, as well as from a mobile device, if there is an Internet connection.
Logging into the mobile version for computers and laptops has become very popular. While at work, on vacation, or on the road, you can freely access your page, because administrators and providers do not always block access to it. This version of the site allows you to save traffic, because all information is transmitted in a small format in a compressed form.
What is it for
Every site is interested in new visitors, because they can then be sold a paid subscription or shown advertising. Therefore, it is beneficial for sites to make registration as simple as possible, ideally with the click of one button (or even without registration at all). If users have to register manually and enter all their details, there is a chance that they will fall off.
In parallel with this, there are services on the Internet that everyone uses: Yandex, Google, Facebook or Vkontakte. Why not take user data from these services?
This is why OAuth was invented.
When I try to log in, VK writes that “The web page is unavailable.” What to do?
Many users are faced with the inability to access VKontakte. The site itself works stably and without any complaints; short glitches occur no more than once a year. Therefore, if VK suddenly turns out to be unavailable, you need to look for the reason at home.
Web-page is unavailable
The most common reasons for this phenomenon:
- ban at the state level (as, for example, in Ukraine from June 2021);
- ban on the use of social networks in the workplace;
- the most common thing is problems with access to the Internet.
If VKontakte has been banned by the state, you can bypass the block by installing a VPN client. In Russia, it is also necessary, because Roskomnadzor blocks access to certain groups and public pages, and you can only get there from a foreign IP address. VPN clients come in both paid and free versions. One of the most convenient free options is the FriGate browser extension. This extension automatically changes the user's IP address to a foreign one and thus allows him to bypass VKontakte blocking.
FriGate browser extension
If an evil employer has blocked VK to prevent employees from shirking work, the method of solving the problem remains the same. Usually certain IP addresses are blocked, and as soon as you install FriGate or any other extension, the blocking disappears without a trace.
OAuth is like a contract between sites
Yandex, Google or any other service that allows you to use your pass must accept a unified data exchange protocol.
To put it simply, they must agree: “We give each other data in this format, we accept it in this format, we trust each other.”
These agreements were enshrined in a single authorization standard - OAuth. It describes how to issue passes, how to check them and what to do in different cases.
What is an avatar? How to change it?
An avatar is a photo or image in a VKontakte user profile. By default, immediately after registration, there is no avatar on the page. To install it, you need to hover your mouse over the photo location, as shown in the screenshot, and select the “Update Photo” option from the pop-up menu. Next, you will be asked to download the finished image from your hard drive or take a photo with your webcam.
Update Photo button
Once the avatar is installed, you can change its thumbnail (a small section of the image shown next to the profile name), as well as add various effects through the built-in photo editor. You can change your avatar at any frequency an infinite number of times.

How single sign-on works
For the user, everything looks simple: he clicked “Login via Yandex”, confirmed to Yandex his desire to enter the desired site, and that’s it - you have already registered on the new site and can use it. But what's going on under the hood?
When a visitor, for example, to a website about programming, clicks “Log in via Yandex,” this site sends a request to Yandex and says: “Someone here wants to log into my site through your service, can you sort it out?”:
When Yandex receives such a request, it needs to understand what kind of visitor came to the site and whether he has a Yandex account. To do this, it shows a pop-up window where the visitor can log into his Yandex account. This is necessary so that the service understands in whose name to issue a pass for the site. If the user is already logged in to Yandex, he will be recognized immediately.
As soon as the visitor enters his username and password, Yandex recognizes him and asks if he trusts this programming site and whether Yandex can share data about his name and email with the site:
Next, Yandex gives your data to the site, it recognizes you, and you’re done:
What functions does my VK page have?
A VKontakte profile is a very multifunctional thing. Without exaggeration, this is a whole life on the display of a computer or mobile phone. The screenshot shows a list of the main functions of the page, but the capabilities of a registered user are by no means limited to this list.
List of main page functions
The key functionality of the VK page is as follows:
- instant exchange of text and audio messages without restrictions (except for individual user privacy settings);
- listening to music, viewing photo and video materials;
- reading news and other content in groups and on public pages;
- creating your own groups and public pages to share your own creativity or interesting information;
- sending text (and other) documents;
- sending and receiving money directly through personal messages;
- flash games, tests, useful applications.
This is just the beginning of the list of VKontakte features. To fully explore it, you need to explore the site yourself. Among other things, VK is the largest information platform where you can find more relevant and interesting things than in any online news publication.
How safe is it
Each site that uses OAuth determines what user data they want to see. For example, one site just needs to know your name and email, while another wants to download your photo and find out your date of birth.
When you sign in via OAuth, the service will tell you: “This is the data they are asking me for. Give access? When you allow access, this data will be transferred to the site. If you refuse, they won’t switch.
✅ Sites that use OAuth will not be able to read your email or private messages. But there are other technologies, such as social media apps, that can do much more.
✅ OAuth cannot send messages on your behalf or post to your news feed. But, again, if this is not OAuth, but a separate application for Facebook or VK, then this is possible. Remember all those games that post on behalf of players “I picked cabbage from my farm”? Here they are.
✅ Your password from Yandex, Google and other services is definitely not transmitted through OAuth. Services store passwords in encrypted form, so even if they wanted to, they would not be able to transmit them.
How can I make sure that the link opens the mobile version of VK, and not the full one?
At the beginning of the link, before vk.com you need to add the letter m and a period.
Example
It was https://vk.com/vhod_ru It became https://m.vk.com/vhod_ru
Using the same method, you can correct the address in the address bar of your browser to open the mobile version of the page you are on. You need to click on the address bar, add the letter m and a dot in front of vk.com, and then press Enter on the keyboard (or the Go, Open button on the screen).
Why can't I leave comments on posts?
Any VKontakte user can comment on posts of other users, as well as groups and public pages. If there is no field for entering comments, this can only mean one thing: the page owner has prohibited adding comments in the privacy settings.
Important! The owner of a group or “public” can also block a specific user. But in this case, a person will not only be able to leave comments, but also view the posts themselves.

How to create a personal VKontakte page
Before you start using this social network, you need to create your own VKontakte page. To do this, you need to follow a simple algorithm consisting of several steps:
- Log in to the official VKontakte website.
- Click on the “registration” item, which is located in the lower right corner of the page.
- A panel will appear in front of you where you will be asked to indicate your first name, last name and date of birth. Do this and press the "enter" key. It is better to provide your real information so that friends and family can easily find you.
- Next, a window will pop up in which you will be asked to enter a valid phone number so that the VKontakte support service can send a confirmation code to it in the form of an SMS. Enter your number in the first line, and you will receive an SMS with a security code. Enter the received code in the second line. Don't be afraid to give the site your real phone number. This is how you prove your identity. In the future, thanks to your personal number, it will be possible to restore your page data if you suddenly lose it.
- As soon as you finish with the previous step, a window will appear in which you need to enter the new password you created for the page. It is very important that only you know the password. And it must be reliable. If you don't take care of this, your account will be easy to hack. This happens relatively often to social media users. No one likes it when their personal life is blatantly invaded.
- After entering your password, you need to click on the “Login to the site” button. Everything is ready, registration is completed. After its completion, you will be taken to a panel with information about yourself.
Every independent computer user can perform this procedure.

Account filling
In order to start “arranging” your VKontakte profile, you need to go to it. Even if you just registered and are already logged in, you need to log out to see if you can log in again. This will ensure that the password you set is correct.
You need to click on the arrow in the upper right corner. A mini-menu will open, at the very bottom of which it will say “exit”. Click on this button and you will find yourself on the main VKontakte login page.
To get back into contact with your page, click on the “email or phone” line, which is on the left. Enter the number to which you linked your page. In the line below, enter the password you set to protect your account. Click the “Login VKontakte” button. If you get to the page you created earlier, it means you did everything right!
To fill your page with your data, you need to go to the settings and fill out the fields that you consider necessary. You can write about your religious views, hobbies, favorite films, marital status, favorite books, etc. All this will not be difficult to do, since the administration of the VKontakte network has foreseen any problems that may arise. They created instructions for the convenience of users. In addition, at any time you can write to the online support service regarding any question of interest, and a live person will answer you.
Logging into the page from someone else's computer
Of course, it is not always possible to get in touch from your computer or any other device that belongs to you. Sometimes you need to do this while visiting a friend or at school/work.
But many, after using a contact from a third-party computer, forget to log out of it. Or their personal data is stored on a third-party device. There are a couple of methods on how to correctly log into your VK page and avoid leaking personal data:
- Incognito tab. This is the name of the tab in the Internet browser where you can perform any actions and enter your data with peace of mind. Nothing will remain in the memory of the stranger's computer. All information will be erased immediately after closing this tab. Log in to VKontakte through the “incognito” tab, and then your data will be automatically erased after you finish all your work.
- "Another's computer". When you are on the main page of the VKontakte service, where you need to enter login information, below the “password” line there is an item that says “someone else’s computer.” Check it when you log into your account from the “left” device and then your data will be automatically erased from memory in the same way as in the previous method.
Thanks to these maneuvers, your personal information will be safe and secure.
Bottom line
The developers of the social network take care of their users and offer a universal way to protect themselves from hacking after visiting the network from an unfamiliar system. It is possible that you might have forgotten to use this function, but 100% did not save these inputs inside the browser. You shouldn’t rely on luck and be sure that no one will decide to visit your profile. It’s better to change your password, even though it won’t be complicated, but as a preventive measure it will once again protect your correspondence from the eyes of third parties.
Computer security experts recommend not to take risks and replace identification data once every 2-3 months. This applies to all resources where you store personal information. This technique is also applicable to accounts in online games, where, due to a little caution, you can lose all achievements and previously purchased items.
After working on someone else’s device, you also need to additionally click on the “Exit” button. By simply closing the browser window there is no chance that the function will not fail. Alternatively, if you open a closed browser, your account will remain active, which means that others can use it.
Don’t forget about the security of your personal data, because even with a complex password and advanced security features, no one is safe from hacking.
Can I see what my page looks like from the outside?
There are 2 options to look at your page from the outside:
- Copy the page address, exit your VK profile, and then follow the link. Then the page will be displayed as unregistered users see it. But the privacy settings should indicate that the page is visible to everyone (as in the screenshot).
- Use the third-person view of the page. This feature is also located in the privacy settings (at the very bottom of the screenshot). By clicking on the link, you can view the page on behalf of a random VKontakte user.
Go to “Settings”
Then "Privacy"
Then “See how other users see your page”
Select the required user and look
When viewing a third-person profile, you can select a specific user. Either one of your friends, or a person found through a search. After all, often, depending on privacy settings, friends see more than strangers. Comparing the profile view of a friend and a stranger is a good idea if the user is concerned about their privacy.
Multimedia
VKontakte multimedia content is presented in full only in the full version for computers.
There are main differences from the optimized version, which are as follows:

- Only the full version runs most applications;
- When listening to audio recordings or watching videos in the optimized version, errors may occur;
- The Products section is at the testing stage;
- Full downloads of music and especially videos are only available from the full version.
The multimedia functionality of the full version is as follows:
- When you click on the Music section in the left menu, a list of audio recordings opens that you can drag and move, send in a message, delete or add. At the top of this window there is also a search bar for music by artists and titles. The right list contains recommendations from your friends;
