In fact, this is not at all difficult and, contrary to existing rumors, implementing the task is as easy as shelling pears. Let's look at how this is done.
The instructions you will find below are, in principle, suitable for both Android and iPhone running iOS. However, simple push-button phones or other devices without an operating system (with Internet access and a simple browser) will not be able to repeat the same thing.
What did VK programmers come up with?
VKontakte management addressed Ukrainians with a message that they can now use the social network’s services without obstacles or VPN. The developers “improved the work of the proxy in the mobile application, so the connection has become more stable.”
Please note that this applies only to the VKontakte mobile application. The browser version of the site in Ukraine is still blocked. It can only be used through a VPN, disguised as a user from another country.
Updating the application allows you to use it both via a Wi-Fi connection and via the mobile Internet of any operator in Ukraine.
VK is alive. Is it true that VKontakte is working again in Ukraine and how long will it last?
The social network VKontakte said it has learned to bypass the blocking imposed by the Ukrainian authorities.
This has already caused a reaction from the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture, which promised to deal with the “zrada.”
We found out what is happening with VK in Ukraine.
“Use without any VPN”
On September 12, the social network published an appeal to Ukrainian users. It was marked in the colors of the Ukrainian flag and written in the state language.
“Use VK as before, without any VPN. We have improved the work of the proxy in the mobile application, so the connection is now more stable,” said VK Ukraine.
Ukrainian officials responded to this post. Minister of Culture and Information Policy Alexander Tkachenko said that he has instructed to look into the “problem” and is preparing response measures.
“Regarding VKontakte.” Today, as soon as we became aware of this information, I asked to check whether this is true and what can be done, what decisions can be made to counteract this story. No matter how we put up a barrier, victory in this hybrid war is in our hands,” he said at a press conference dedicated to his hundred days of work in the Ministry of Culture.
So did VK bypass the blocking?
It has been known for a long time that the VKontakte mobile application works without VPN and anonymizers. “Strana” talked about this last summer.
Another thing is that the Ukrainian authorities tried to somehow prevent this - and therefore the application crashed at times, did not load, etc. But mostly it worked.
That is, the VK message does not say that the application has bypassed the block (this happened a long time ago), but that there will now be fewer failures when working without a VPN (or they will disappear altogether).
At the same time, VKontakte still does not load through a browser - mobile or computer. That is, no one lifted the ban on the social network.
And now the question arises: will the authorities be able to block the application as well? Even the minister promised this.
Judging by the fact that it has been operating for a long time, people in Kyiv know about it. And they either turn a blind eye or simply don’t understand how to technically “ban” the VK application.
Considering that the social network literally flaunts bypassing the blocking, the second version looks more likely. Otherwise, the VK administration would not once again attract attention to itself.
How Zelensky supported the ban on Poroshenko
At the same time, it is noteworthy how the authorities under Zelensky continue hostile rhetoric and support bans on social networks.
VKontakte and Odnoklassniki were banned in May 2021 by decree of Petro Poroshenko.
On the eve of his election as president, Vladimir Zelensky, in April 2021, spoke out against the bans.
“And what have we achieved? Ours began to circumvent the ban. You know this very well. The Ukrainians are bypassing. I don't use this. To be honest, I haven’t used it before. My opinion: this situation – I call it “parking in Kyiv”. My car was once taken away, but now I’m being fined. If you parked in the wrong place, for example, you were fined. Give me parking, and then punish me harshly when I don’t follow the law. It's exactly the same story here. You give people a platform - this is where the Ukrainians are, where we communicate, where we have the same worldview - and “slam” them,” Zelensky said.
In response to the journalist’s remark that there are Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, the interlocutor replied that they are not enough for people, since they bypass the ban.
“And if on the same Odnoklassniki and so on people are involved in politics, engaged in any kind of aggression, if they have their own bots that influence Ukrainians with information, they have anti-Ukrainian slogans, then this, guys, is a crime, this is a different matter ", Zelensky said.
Then he added that before banning it, it would be a good idea to ask the people’s opinion.
“What is our history, what is our problem? We don't convey anything to society. Nothing. We don't explain why this is bad. Explain and tell people: “People, do you think that this should work after what is printed there and after the information policy that they introduce? Is this supposed to work? The whole society will say: “Thank you for asking me.” And not only will they agree with the closure, no one will find workarounds. But first, in any decision, you need to unite society, explain why (why - Ed.), propose a model, and then close it, that’s the only way. But this is my personal opinion,” Zelensky said then.
That is, Ze is not against the ban, but with reservations and a clear alternative. He also called for explaining everything to the people, and only then banning it.
True, already being president, he, without explaining anything, extended the ban on Poroshenko.
From 2021 to 2021, the popularity of VK fell from 15% to 7%, while Facebook grew from 45% to 58%. These are the results of a survey by R&B Group. Also, another 6% use the banned Odnoklassniki. That is, at least 13% of the population use Russian social networks and are not afraid to talk about it.
How the Ministry of Culture reacted
Minister of Culture Alexander Tkachenko
has already responded to VK application updates. He stated that, as before, he would oppose access to the banned Russian social network.
“ We met several times at the National Security and Defense Council on this matter, there is an action plan, I hope that it will be implemented ” Tkachenko said.
Let us note that in the spring of 2021, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine extended the blocking of Russian websites and social networks for three years. The Ministry of Culture initially supported the idea of blocking Russian resources.
What the experts say
The Internet Association of Ukraine believes that upgrading the application will not help VK significantly increase its audience.
Association representative Alexander Glushchenko explains that all fans of the network already used a proxy server to access the social network, so the developers did not offer anything new. Moreover, similar updates were previously released by Yandex. Browser" and "Odnoklassniki". According to the expert, Ukrainian users are already accustomed to Facebook, Telegram and Instagram, and young people are completely mastering TikTok. VK is no longer a unique product that Ukrainians cannot do without. “Most likely, the management of VKontakte simply made an information “stuffing” to remind about the social network that is losing popularity in Ukraine,” Glushchenko noted.

told Vesti.ua that the application will indeed become more accessible. The authorities will not be able to quickly re-establish a hard bloc.
“ The social network could be used through any VPN. If the authorities wanted to block sites and applications even through proxies, they would have taken up this issue long ago. This can be done, but it is very difficult, you need to really bother yourself. If they weren’t strictly blocked earlier, then even now the chances of this happening are scanty ” says the programmer.
Why would it be difficult to block this technology? The fact is that VKontakte will use a lot of proxy servers, which will first direct the user to an authorized site. Ukraine, for example, will block one route, but another will appear in its place. Moreover, these proxies need to be sent to providers, which also takes time.
Login to VKontakte from a phone in Ukraine

- At the top of the window, switch to the free option and select some other country different from the one we just used. This way, we will switch to a less congested channel and can improve network performance.
- Let's open the main menu of the program and go to the settings.
