Recently, people's interest in the phenomenon of pyramids has again increased significantly. The word “Pyramid” became a dirty word, and the surname Mavrodi became a synonym for the word “swindler.”

In the ordinary philistine consciousness, the word MMM evokes associations imposed by our media, from which we only have to draw information - a pyramid, a scam, a scam, scammers.

The collapse of MMM

April 1994

– The Tax Inspectorate initiates a scheduled audit in relation to MMM OJSC. Considering the fact that at that time the number of investors numbered in the tens of millions, Sergei Mavrodi could collect the million signatures required to initiate the Referendum quite easily. In order not to be unfounded, Sergei Mavrodi published two articles as an advertisement in several popular print media of that time under the titles “On Thin Ice” and “Explanation of Dislike.” The leitmotif of both articles can be clarified by the phrase that was the epilogue of the second: “The authorities do not like Lenya Golubkov. – Sergei Mavrodi issues his own decree in which he announces a “restart” of the system.
