The music sections of VKontakte on the web and in mobile applications have changed visually and have received more complex navigation with an emphasis on learning new music. Despite the efforts of the social network to monetize the section, a mandatory paid subscription was not introduced.
One of its major “innovations” is that the social network has abandoned the music cache in its Android application: now this function will be paid and available in the separate music application Boom. TJ managed to test the new audio section before the official launch.
VKontakte application for Android
The easiest way is to install through the play market. We launch the client and type “Vkontakte” in the search bar.
We want the topmost option in the list of results. Click on it and go to the description page. Here we click the “Install” button.
A permission request will appear. You need to click the “Accept” button.
The installation procedure will begin. Wait until the application downloads everything you need to your phone. All further procedures will take place automatically. When everything is ready, the “Open” button will appear. Click it.
The application will be launched. We need to either create a new account (see how to register on VKontakte) or log into an existing one. Let's choose the second option - click the "Login" button. Then enter your login and password (see VK login and password), and click the “Login” button again.
Your personal VKontakte page will open in the application.

New navigation
The main page of the “Audio Recordings” section has now become a hub with a new design: tracks added by the user are still in first place, but in addition to this list, three more sections have appeared. The second is Playlists: a separate page with a full list of playlists (as opposed to the main page, which displays only five playlists).
The third section is “Recommendations”: it contains everything that VKontakte has learned about the user’s tastes. In the center of the section there is a personalized playlist, and then the songs are collected in blocks: tracks from friends, new releases, playlists from communities (you can listen).
Recently listened songs, popular ones on VKontakte and other tracks that the social network considers potentially interesting for the user are also displayed here.
The last section is “Updates from friends”: this is a feed of all audio recordings that the user’s friends have added to them. From this section, you can immediately take your friends’ tracks to your place, start playing them, or build playlists based on recommendations.
The appearance of the player, which is displayed by clicking in the top panel, has also changed. It now has a "Current Playlist" section where you can control your current music playback without changing your own audio playlist.
