Who is a moderator and what does he do as part of his position?

So, friends, after the recent modernization, the powers of the leaders of public pages and groups on VKontakte have also been updated. We will talk to you today about how to become an administrator of a VKontakte group, and we will also tell you who a community moderator and editor are, as well as an administrator. In all communities, without exception, one system of authority was established for their leaders. As we have already said, this entire system includes three levels of leadership:

  1. Moderator
  2. Editor
  3. Administrator

These are already entire vacancies, and not just a hobby. How are they different from each other? We strongly recommend that you study these instructions before appointing leaders to your community. After all, if you appoint the wrong person, then a situation may even happen that your community will simply be “hijacked”.

Who is a group moderator?

It should be said that the moderator has the least rights. The purpose of the moderator is to maintain order in the community.

  • The moderator has the right to delete comments from social network users in the group and delete discussions created in the group or public.
  • The moderator cannot delete topics that were created by another group management.
  • The moderator can also delete all photos, videos and music that the user has posted in the last seven days.
  • The moderator is not able to delete content that was added by other leaders of the VKontakte community.
  • The moderator can approve new users who intend to join the closed community.
  • The moderator can blacklist users or simply remove users from the group/public (no more than 100 people per day).
  • The moderator can remove users from the emergency situation.

We hope that now you understand who a community moderator is. Now let's talk about the editor.

OOP - especially dangerous subscribers

Now let’s get acquainted with those who create these OOS. Otherwise, where do you think they come from? These are unpleasant situations that dangerous subscribers create. And then the OOPS will silently creep up on you on soft paws - two in one, the worst option.

Trolls

Everything is clear with these guys - they are looking for victims, fresh meat to barbecue and feed their ego. Basically, these are fake accounts that can appear in every community and comment on absolutely any post. As a rule, they resort to obvious provocations in order to deceive people into emotions. They wrote that you do charity work and feed the homeless - they will answer that they are the scum of society and it would be better if they did not exist at all. They advertised American goods - they will write about the damned reptilian pendos.

Why are they dangerous? They can post prohibited content - hello, blocking.

What to do? Ignore. To enter into polemics with such individuals is to scatter time to the wind. If ignoring does not help, you will be permanently banned from the group, let them go feed elsewhere. In the end, you are acting in the interests of your subscribers by protecting them from inappropriate behavior. A troll can target any participant – not just moderators.

Spammers

The open wall of the group is like cheese for Rocky, like a cake for someone losing weight, like a magnet for iron. Attractive, in general. Guys who spammer usually go ahead: they don’t read the community rules, they don’t delve into the nuances, they just choose a well-promoted group and leave their advertisements there, calls to vote and other rubbish.

Why are they dangerous? They cause dissatisfaction among subscribers: who would like to read a group while wading through tons of spam?

What to do? There are several ways.

The first one is naive. I did this in the early days of moderating. You answer in the comments to the post that advertising in this group is not allowed. Most likely, you will not even be read or ignored. As one spammer answered me: “I don’t read comments at all, I’m a busy person!” You can also write in a personal message - perhaps they will even answer you and apologize, but then they will start tagging the group wall again. It’s simple: many spammers don’t even remember where they “checked in”: the territory of their dubious activities is too large.

The second one is tricky. You write in a personal message and offer to place the same advertisement, but officially, for money. Essentially, become a partner and start cross-marketing. Only a few agree to this, the rest respond with proud silence (surprising, right?). The freebie turns out to be more expensive than the threat of a ban.

Third, cruel. But effective. The first time - a warning, the second - a warning, the third - a lifelong ban. Or an immediate ban - whatever you want, your right, just don’t forget to write about it in the group rules and warn the other participants. This is how evil admins calm the remnants of their conscience.

Okay, trolls and spammers - it’s easy to deal with them, a life-giving ban solves the problem. It’s worse when ordinary subscribers become dangerous – if they are dissatisfied with something and want to let off steam. That’s when unfair reproaches, accusations and, ultimately, a threat to your reputation begin.

Dissatisfied

They are like Baba Yaga - always against. It is useless to prove and explain logically. The dissatisfied person does not want to hear anything and defends his position. Here are a couple of typical dialogues.

- Why is this so expensive? There are no such prices!

– It’s not expensive at all, compare the prices here and here (we attach links with the cost of similar products).

- I won’t watch anything! You're completely crazy, you're making money off of ordinary people!

Another example. We are holding a competition and announcing the winners. The conditions of the competition specifically state that the winner is selected by the administration of the competition according to such and such criteria. For example, if there is a photo competition, we evaluate the quality of the photo, compliance with the theme of the competition, and the aesthetics of the photo. We publish a post with the results, and a Dissatisfied person comes in the comments.

- Why didn’t I win? I have a good photo too!

– Your photo is cloudy, taken with an ancient camera.

- I do not know anything! Everything has been bought from you, you are giving away prizes to yours and ours!

Of course, I’m exaggerating now; discontent may not manifest itself so aggressively. But it’s still unpleasant – especially if the criticism is unfair.

Group administration response option

Why are they dangerous? They can spoil their reputation and cause confusion among other, even previously loyal subscribers.

What to do? There is no need to ban such people - they are unlikely to break the rules, they are simply expressing their opinion. But there is no point in arguing with the Dissatisfied - they won’t understand anyway. Try to appeal to logic, turn the conversation into a peaceful direction, and if it doesn’t help (and usually it doesn’t help), just leave gracefully. Provide evidence that you are right and end the dialogue with a neutral “OK, thanks for your opinion.” Adequate subscribers will understand everything themselves and will take your side.

Slayers

These are not just dissatisfied - they are actively dissatisfied. They will not be too lazy to find a violation in your group (and you can do this if you wish) and scold in support. They will parse any photo from the post into pixels, and if they see something dubious (let’s say you are advertising manicure services, and in the photo the master is working without gloves), they will without a doubt contact the regulatory organizations.

Why are they dangerous? With my activity, I think it’s clear without explanation.

What to do? It’s difficult to deal with slanderers - they do their business quietly and do not notify the entire RuNet about it. You can warn the OOPS and neutralize the Klyauznik while he’s already exhausted. If you notice criticism in the group, try to reassure the author and solve the problem. After all, a manicurist without gloves is truly unacceptable.

How to deal with negativity in the comments and not ruin your reputation

Who is an administrator

An administrator is a person who, in principle, is the most important person in the community. He already has editor and moderator rights, plus:

  • He can appoint moderators/editors and remove them if necessary.
  • Edit all information about the community completely.
  • The administrator can configure synchronization of the community with Twitter and RSS feeds.
  • Work with applications: add them to the community, delete them, etc.

Please remember that the administrator can use the authority one hundred percent. Be very careful when you appoint someone as an administrator for your community. There have been real cases when newly-minted administrators simply stole a group or public page. Then they could sell it or run it themselves. If such a story suddenly happened to you, we can only sympathize with you. First, write to the VKontakte support service, perhaps they can help you. Secondly, don’t despair, we all learn solely from our mistakes!

Online search for people VKontakte

If you are a registered VK user, then the online search for people on VKontakte has long been familiar to you inside and out. You can always click on the word “People” (1) in the top bar of the VKontakte website to go to the advanced people search page. If you know how a person is registered on VKontakte, you can simply type his name in the search bar. The robot will show you all people with that name. You can then either refine your search data to narrow your search, or manually browse through all the profiles offered until you find the one you're looking for.

Advanced search (2) involves the use of data about a person such as: country, education, age, gender, marital status. In addition, if you are not looking for a specific person, but form a group of people according to certain criteria, the interface allows you to filter out users without profile photos (often newbies or abandoned pages) and those who are not currently online. When searching, users use criteria from the “Life Position”, “Military Service” and “Work” sections much less frequently. If you are absolutely sure that you know the VKontakte user name and his date of birth, you can try your luck by entering this data in the “Advanced” (3) section of the advanced search. But keep in mind that not all users provide this information, and not everyone is telling the truth. By the way, in the general search for people, the default ranking is by popularity. Do you know how to become popular on VKontakte? We reveal the secret of popularity in this article. And if you want your page to rank higher than others in searches, you need big and/or friends.

It’s also worth mentioning the “Possible Friends” section, which used to be available on the page with your friends, but was later moved under the side menu, where contextual advertising was displayed. The problem is that some users use the AD-block extension, which successfully blocks advertising, and with it... possible friends. If you want to see the full list of possible friends (people you have mutual friends with), just go to . Or go to the “My Friends” section and click on the “Add Friends” button located to the right of the search bar (4). Or you don’t have to look for new friends, but with professionals.

Search photos on VKontakte

It would be ridiculous if someone starts teaching you how to search for photos on VKontakte . Usually, to view all the new photos added by friends or communities of which you are a member, just go to My News and go to the appropriate tab. However, some time ago a service appeared that uses a special search algorithm. Thanks to this, it became possible to view the photos that the user uploaded from his page to the walls of other people, as well as to the walls or albums of communities. This service has the unsightly name “; at the moment, about 150 million different photographs are stored on the project’s website.

Everyone must decide for themselves how ethical it is to use this service. Roskomnadzor believes that it is incorrect to search for VKontakte photos through the site, so it has made more than once attempts to block it on the territory of the Russian Federation. To use the photo search on this resource, just insert a link to the user you are interested in in the search bar. If there are photos of him in the database, they will be shown to you immediately.

By the way, if you yourself are included in the database of this service, then you do not have to pay its creators the amount they ask for it. It is much more logical to delete your page. Plus, it's free.

How to become a moderator and what qualities are needed for this

Before appointing a moderator, the resource owner or administrator must check whether he has the necessary qualities:

  1. Availability of knowledge on the topic of discussion. You need to have a good understanding of the topic to respond to comments, spot misinformation, or keep up a flagging discussion.
  2. Ability to resolve conflicts. A good moderator should not ban everyone and delete all comments that he does not like. Instead, you need to try to resolve the conflict peacefully, clearly explain your point of view, be polite and patient. Banning and deleting comments is a last resort.
  3. Ability to quickly respond to situations. Users won’t want to wait a week for a response to their question; they want an answer right now. Also, if a dispute breaks out in a conversation, it needs to be settled quickly, otherwise it can develop into a large-scale scandal.
  4. Basic knowledge of working with the interface of social networks, website engines, initial programming skills.

How to become an editor in a VKontakte group

There are currently no educational institutions where you can get a specialist diploma in managing groups on social networks, so most managers gain knowledge and experience on their own or through online courses taught by SMM managers. In such classes, students can not only get acquainted with the theory, but also gain their first practical experience, which will help them subsequently find a job.

Vacancies for editors of groups on social networks are published on online platforms for freelancers (Freelancer, Freelancehunt) or on job search services (Job.ru, HeadHunter.ru, Rabota.ru). In addition, you can directly offer your services to the administrators of the groups you like on VK. The more such applications there are, the higher the chance of getting a job.
